Purple Loosestrife Pulling Progress

As of today, August 3rd, we have cleared all of the shoreline from the boat launch on the Main Lakes west into Far West Lake. This includes Lake Laura, North Camper Pond, and most of Lake of the Clouds. Tomorrow, Friday Aug 4th, we will be back to clear the two islands, the beach area, and the North entrance channel to Far West Lake. From there we will move along to finish West and Main Lake. If time allows we will then proceed into East Lake. We are encountering fewer flowering adults, but in areas where the plants were treated in the past or mowed we are finding dense patches of young non-flowering seedlings. In these areas the plants are being treated with a systemic herbicide. You may notice an occasional brown and burned out looking area along the shoreline over the next few weeks. The Purple Loosestrife control project will be wrapped up just in time for the Vallisneria (Wild Celery) control will be needed on the Main Lakes. If you see Purple Loosestrife after the next week or so, please let us know where you spotted it so we can remove it before the flowers go to seed production.

What a great job you are doing, not only in restoring and improving the lake's ecosystems, but also in the sharing of important information along the way!
